Everyone has a different idea of what the highlights of Secondary School are – to some, they are the little moments spent with friends in the classroom. To others, it’s the events that are fondly remembered, through the lenses of nostalgia – the school celebrations, excursions, camps, orientations, competitions.
Regardless of our individual preferences and experiences, it would be remiss to exclude studies and exams as part and parcel of the Secondary School – including the ‘O’ Levels that so many of our academic journeys would lead up to.
Be it Lower Secondary Algebra, ‘E’ Math Vectors or ‘A’ Math Calculus, the novelty and abstract nature of these topics can certainly leave a strong first impression for those who went in unprepared.
Try your hand at these questions to get a gauge of your knowledge today!
Here are a couple of problems for Discriminant and Quadratic Practice:
(For more math practice questions, find them under TSV Math Tuition Centre’s Free Resources!)
1. Find the range of values of m for which 2x² + 4mx – m > 0 for all real values of x.
2. The curve y=x² + 2kx – 6x + 25 is always positive for all real values of x. Find the greatest value of k given that k is a composite number.
For some students, a little bit of pressure and uncertainty drives them to step out of their comfort zone – a catalyst for them to push themselves further.
Let’s jump in and attempt a practice question on Vectors and Calculus

Before we move on to the answers, it’s a good time to discuss the another way to do practice questions – that is, attempting past year exam papers.
Compared to topical practice questions, practice papers can sometimes have a narrower spread of questions – especially if only sticking to the Past Year ‘O’ Level Math Papers. Additionally, it’s always important to take note of any syllabus change between years and schools.
Nonetheless, there’s a reason why the Ten Years Series (TYS) has become such an invaluable staple of Secondary Schools in preparing their students for the national examinations.
Firstly, without being informed of the question topic, students have to navigate a complex assortment of questions. If done as a timed practice, this simulates the environment an actual exam provides – balancing time-management with analysing question types and topics. These exam techniques are as crucial to practice and refine as our math skills themselves.
Secondly, due to this simulation, it provides a more accurate representation of students’ weaknesses in answering techniques and even conceptual misunderstandings. Being too acutely aware of the topic during topical practice can actually influence one’s performance. In contrast, with the exam-like conditions they provide, practice papers can help to reveal the misconceptions we can often revert back to in a moment of doubt or panic.

EXCELLENT Based on 124 reviews Posted on Google Ratul Ramachandran17 February 2025Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Before joining TSV, I received F9s in both emaths and Amaths for my mid years. Thanks to the individual support from the teachers and their recommendations , I was able to raise my grades to A2 in both subjects in my olevels. When I first joined I definitely thought classes were more interactive which made learning more fun and easy. The additional practice and revision lessons before the O-Levels helped me strengthen my understanding and boosted my confidence too. This experience not only improved my math skills but also made me enjoy the subject more. I'm truly grateful for the support! Thank you!Posted on Google Riz isabelle17 February 2025Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My math grades for both maths especially A math wasn’t the best before joining TSV. With the guidance of Ms Sonia, I was able to pull up my grades for my O lvls from a fail to a b3 for both maths. Every lesson, it’s extremely clear that Ms Sonia is very dedicated and passionate to help those who struggle in math. Not only was her class productive, it felt like a safe space to learn and share my thoughts and uncertainties. Ms Sonia was very engaging with me and the other students and that made me actually want to go for tuition every week. Even the other teachers were as attentive and dedicated to helping the students and i really appreciate how much they have helped me improve my maths.Posted on Google jeremy lim wei yang17 February 2025Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Before i started going to this tuition centre may math was really bad, i was failing my EOYS and my WAs. I joined this tuition centre after my cousin intorduced it to me during sec 3. When i first joined i didn't notice that much improvement, but overtime i started to understand the concepts more and soon the math questions were easy to understand and i could easily solve it using the methods taught by the teachers there and finally after 2 long years i got my o level results of A2Posted on Google seth sage (baddie)13 February 2025Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I started joining TSV in sec 4, to be tutored for Amaths. This tuition has allowed me to maintain constant As throughout my exams as well as for o levels. I also enjoyed heading down to the centre whenever I am preparing for my exams as the teachers will always give us a helping hand and explain each problem thoroughly.Posted on Google Tomato Ang21 January 2025Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
