O Level Results and Applications 2026

For students preparing to graduate from secondary school and receive their O Level examination results, there is more to consider than academic grades alone.

Schools in Singapore use a holistic approach that also recognises a student’s involvement in co-curricular activities (CCA).

Understanding this system can help students make informed decisions and maximise opportunities for post-secondary placements such as junior colleges, polytechnics, and the Integrated Programme.

The Ministry of Education’s LEAPS 2.0 framework is a system that recognises a student’s holistic development through involvement in CCAs and community contributions.

LEAPS stands for Leadership, Enrichment, Achievement, Participation and Service, and it reflects current MOE emphasis on values, competencies and life skills as well as academics

Under LEAPS 2.0, students are assessed across four core domains:

  • Participation – sustained involvement in a CCA over several years

  • Achievement – representing the school or performing at competitions and events

  • Leadership – taking on leadership roles or organising activities

  • Service – contributing to community and school service activities, including Values-In-Action projects

Students’ attainment levels in these domains are recognised at the end of their secondary school education with levels such as Excellent, Good or Fair. (Refer to the table above).

These are then converted into bonus points that can be used during applications to junior colleges and other post-secondary pathways.

Bonus Points for Junior College and Polytechnic Applications

Students with strong LEAPS 2.0 attainment may receive up to two bonus points when applying to junior colleges or polytechnics, depending on their overall level and school policies. This can make a real difference when competing for places in popular schools or courses.

It is important for students not to overlook their CCA grades because these may complement their academic performance in O Levels when making school choices.

Tips for Students and Parents When Choosing CCAs

Because participation in CCA is compulsory and contributes to LEAPS 2.0 recognition, upcoming O Level graduates should reflect on their past CCA experiences and consider a few key points:

  • Find Personal Interests and Strengths

Choosing a CCA that aligns with individual interests and strengths helps students stay engaged and perform consistently over several years of secondary education. Greater engagement often leads to achievement and leadership opportunities, which are recognised under LEAPS 2.0.

  • Aim for Sustained Involvement

LEAPS 2.0 recognises students who participate regularly and show commitment to their CCA over multiple years. Attendance, contribution and active involvement are important factors in reaching higher levels of attainment.

  • Look for Leadership and Achievement Opportunities

Students should seek opportunities within their CCA for leadership roles, participation in performances or competitions, and meaningful contributions to service projects. These achievements strengthen a student’s LEAPS 2.0 profile and make school applications more competitive.

  • Reflect on Service Contributions

Many schools and programmes value students who show a sense of social responsibility and community involvement. Completing Values-In-Action or other community service projects contributes to the service domain of LEAPS 2.0.

What to Expect When Applying to Schools After O Levels

Junior Colleges

Junior colleges may consider both academic results and LEAPS 2.0 bonus points in the joint admissions exercise. Students should check each school’s entry requirements and see how CCA achievements are treated in selection.

Polytechnic and ITE

For students heading to polytechnic and Institute of Technical Education (ITE) courses, strong CCA records can support applications for certain programmes and scholarships even though academic grades remain the primary factor.

Integrated Programme Considerations

Some students may have bypassed O Levels through the Integrated Programme (IP). However, for those completing O Levels, strong CCA involvement documented through LEAPS 2.0 can still benefit future applications or direct school admissions if applicable.
